Alchemy GameLab is a small indie game design studio based on northern Colorado. We play and develop tabletop role-playing games, with a strong preference for dark fantasy, science fiction, and odd/unusual/quirky.
Gaming is for everyone, regardless of age, gender, ability, or background. Games — and roleplaying games especially — create portals into incredible worlds of unlimited imagination. Without exception, we want everyone to have the opportunity to come together at the table (in-person or virtually), collaborate, imagine, and have fun in a safe environment.
Therefore, our games should be used in the spirit of inclusion and equity. Although our games may delve into dark or mature themes, we strive to make the real world a better, kinder place where everyone can be treated with respect.
Writing: Our games and content are written by people, with minimal use of artificial intelligence. You will never read something from Alchemy GameLab that has been entirely copied and pasted straight from ChatGPT or any other large language model. However, we do use these tools as aids for ideation and creating rough outlines. We strongly agree with the gaming community that over-reliance on AI writing can result in poor quality. However, these tools can have a place, if used responsibly.
Art: Currently, we use AI-created artwork from Midjourney in some games and publications. We also use creative commons art/images and create digital art from scratch. (Our newest game, Dark Space: Escape from Helios V, contains no AI content). If AI art is used in a product, we will disclose that information. Transparency remains integral to building trust and ensuring our customers can make informed choices. Although we would love to work exclusively with talented artists, our current operational budget cannot support that — yet. Over time, our intent is to work with artists more and use AI less, as funding allows.
